a. HSFC/PFC Scholarships in Physiotherapy ResearchThe Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) is pleased to continue its partnership with the Canadian Physiotherapy Foundation (PFC) to offer the 2010 HSFC/PFC Scholarships in Physiotherapy Research. These Scholarships recognize highly qualified masters and doctoral candidates pursuing physiotherapy research in an area relevant to heart disease, stroke care, or stroke rehabilitation. a. Focus on Stroke 9The Focus on Stroke initiative aims to build stroke research capacity in Canada. The emphasis of the ninth round is to encourage research in the later themes (i.e., clinical, health services/policy, and/or population health) and support research training of heath professionals (e.g., nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech therapists ect.). Funding priority will be given to highly rated applicants whose research is 60% or more in the later themes: clinical, health services/policy, or population health. A limited amount of funds is available to support proposals with a basic biomedical focus. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health, and the Canadian Stroke Network are proud to support this training initiative. HSFC Doctoral Research Awards and Research FellowshipsThe Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC)'s Junior Personnel Awards provide salary support for PhD candidates and post-doctoral fellows in cardio-cerebrovascular research. Partnerships for Health System Improvement (PHSI)The Partnerships for Health System Improvement (PHSI) initiative is a premier funding opportunity for health services and policy research. The goal of the program is to support collaborative, policy-relevant research to strengthen Canada's health care system. As a competition partner in the PHSI program, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is specifically interested in supporting research in obesity, stroke, or resuscitation. This new personnel award program aims to build capacity for resuscitation research in Canada and to support the next generation of researchers who will contribute to advancing knowledge and improving the quality of patient care and outcomes in this important area. Clinical ImagingThe Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) is pleased to fund research in the area of Clinical Imaging, in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health and the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. Through this strategic initiative, the funding partners support collaborative research that explores novel, non-invasive imaging technologies with an emphasis on translation of research findings into improvements in the health of the populations. HSFC is co-funding two of the four team grants:

4. Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, Edmonton, October 24-28, 2009

Canadian Cardiovascular Congress is a forum to showcase Canada's best
research and promote learning through scientific sessions, interactive
workshops, late-breaking and featured clinical trials, and lively
debates. It is a venue for active discussions on key issues with your
colleagues from across the country. This year, Dr. Robert Hegele will be giving the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Lecture on Nature, Nurture and Cardiometabolic Risk, following the opening ceremonies at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. 5. 1st Canadian Stroke Congress, Québec City, June 7-8, 2010

| The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is proud to collaborate with the Canadian Stroke Network and the Canadian Stroke Consortium
to host the first ever Canadian Stroke Congress. This landmark event
will bring together Canada's best and brightest minds in stroke

6. Call for Abstracts - Stroke Researcher Interaction Workshop

| Focus
on Stroke recipients who have completed their awards are invited to
submit abstracts for oral presentations at the June 5-6, 2010
Researcher Interaction Workshop, to be held in conjunction with the 1st
Canadian Stroke Congress in Québec City. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC)’s Researcher Interaction Workshop is a forum for researchers, funding partners, and knowledge users to discuss research progress and results from a Knowledge Transfer and Exchange perspective. The goal of the Workshop’s oral presentations is to showcase the impact of Focus on Stroke research on stroke knowledge, care, prevention, rehabilitation, treatment, or diagnosis.
