Novel and Exploratory Research Fund 2008 - 2009



The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) is pleased to announce the results of the 2008 - 2009 Novel and  Exploratory Research Fund (NERF) competition.

As part of its mandate to advance research and its application, the Board of Directors of HSFC has earmarked research funds specifically for high-risk research that has the potential for momentous impacts for heart disease and stroke.

Each year the top two rated applicants from each of the HSFC’s Scientific Review Sub-committees and from the Junior and Senior Personnel Award competitions are eligible to apply. The funding is provided to investigate a research question that is high risk, speculative, and has paradigm-shifting potential. This may be a research proposal that might otherwise be considered too risky within the traditional HSFC scientific peer review system and/or may involve collaboration outside the health field.

A total of 14 applications was received; three have been approved for funding.
