Stroke Researcher Interaction Workshop - Call for Abstracts



Focus on Stroke recipients who have completed their awards are invited to submit abstracts for oral presentations at the June 5-6, 2010 Researcher Interaction Workshop, to be held in conjunction with the 1st Canadian Stroke Congress in Québec City.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC)’s Researcher Interaction Workshop is a forum for researchers, funding partners, and knowledge users to discuss research progress and results from a Knowledge Transfer and Exchange perspective. The goal of the Workshop’s oral presentations is to showcase the impact of Focus on Stroke research on stroke knowledge, care, prevention, rehabilitation, treatment, or diagnosis.

Travel and one-night accommodation for successful candidates will be covered by HSFC.

Deadline
Please email abstracts in Word format to anguyen@hsf.ca by 4:00 p.m. December 15, 2009. Successful candidates will be notified by March 1, 2010.

Eligibility criteria
Focus on Stroke recipients who have completed their awards are eligible to submit and if successful, are eligible to present abstracts at the Researcher Interaction Workshop. Abstracts must be on the research supported through the Focus on Stroke initiative.

Selection criteria
Candidates may submit abstracts that have been previously published in scientific journals or other forums.  For this Researcher Interaction Workshop, the review committee is seeking abstracts that showcase the impact of research on advancing stroke knowledge, care, prevention, rehabilitation, treatment, or diagnosis. Impact measures used in the selection process include:
  • Knowledge production – number of  journal publications; number of citations; number of presentations at conferences and other events;
  • Building research capacity – number of studies that have arisen as a result of the research;
  • Informing decision-making – applications of the research in clinical practices e.g., treatment, diagnosis ect.; prevention; rehabilitation; health services/systems; or health care policies.
Information to be included in abstracts, in the order below -
  1. Title
  2. Authors - Please indicate the current institutions of the Focus on Stroke recipient and supervisor.
  3. Abstract text - Abstracts must be in lay language. Maximum 400 words. Please use 12-point Times New Roman or  11-point Arial, single line spacing. Tables, charts, diagrams and images are not permitted. References should be used sparingly.
