Three awards are provided annually in each Ontario medical school to enable medical students to gain research training during the summer. The awards, valued at $4,000.00, are tenable in a department associated with the medical school for a period of three months.
Applicants must rank in the upper 20% of their class and have completed, at the minimum, their first year of medical school. Candidates must undertake training in cardiovascular/cerebrovascular research relevant to the mission of the Foundation under an identified academic supervisor for a period of three consecutive months, from June to August inclusive. A research scientist should not supervise more that one student. The student should select only one supervisor. A scientist should not undertake the supervision of a member of their immediate family.
Applications for these awards should be made to the institution’s Dean of Medicine, who selects, in consultation with members of his/her faculty, the winners of the awards. The Dean’s office will forward the following information on three candidates from the medical school: student names and contact information, year of study, identified academic supervisors and contact information, titles of project and one page project descriptions supplied by students and endorsed by the identified academic supervisors, by March 31 to:
