2004 - 2005 Pfizer Canada/HSFC Research Fellowship - Haidar

Dr. Bassam Haidar
University of Ottawa Heart Institute

Dr. Bassam Haidar is searching for ways to increase High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels, because low levels of HDL (the “good” cholesterol) in the blood increases the risk of heart disease. Dr. Haidar’s study of how HDL transports Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) – the “bad” cholesterol – back to the liver will help find new ways to increase HDL cholesterol levels and help prevent heart disease in the future.
Dr. Haidar completed his graduate studies at l’Université de Montréal. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where he is working with the Lipoprotein and Atherosclerosis Research Group headed by Dr. Yves Marcel.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation and Pfizer Canada Inc. are proud to support Dr. Haidar’s work, which will increase our understanding of the root causes of cardiovascular disease.
