Innovations in Peer ReviewThe Common CV Network is a coalition of research funding organizations that are working together to streamline the application process and reduce the burden of this process on the scientific community. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) has implemented the use of the Common CV for all programs. Please visit the Common CV website at http://www.commoncv.net/index_e.html to complete the Common CV. Lay Reviewers on Scientific Review Committee In the last 50 years, the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) has invested more than $1 billion in heart disease and stroke research. Accountability to the public/donors is fundamental to the success of HSFC. For the past several years, HSFC has been innovative in adding lay reviewers to committees reviewing Grant-in-Aid and Senior Personnel Awards applications. The role of the lay reviewer is to enhance the accountability and integrity of the Heart and Stroke Foundation peer review process, provide an additional mechanism for evaluating the relevance of projects to HSF's mission, and increase awareness of the importance of knowledge transfer and exchange. Each year a request for nominations is sought.
